A warm café room with round wooden tables, a leather bench and a brick wall at the back.

Lunch that fits your lunch break.

A café by the station that cooks properly: most lunch plates reach the table within fifteen minutes, and four nights a week it turns into a small kitchen.

Near a station, lunch is usually fast or good.

We opened Kettlewren to fix the three things that kept sending us back to a sandwich at our desks.

  1. You never know how long it takes

Every lunch dish on our menu says how long it takes to cook. If you have thirty minutes, you can order to fit them.

  2. Allergens are a conversation, not a label

Every dish is marked for gluten, dairy, nuts and meat. The kitchen keeps a full list for anything else you need to check.

  3. Groups can't get a table

Book for up to eight online. For more, call and we'll set up the back room.

From this week's menu

The menu changes with what comes in. Three of the plates people order most.

A café that cooks.

Two people, one small kitchen and a long table by the window.

A round café table by a tall window with a cafetière, cups and potted plants.

Kettlewren started as a coffee counter by the station. People kept asking for something more than a pastry, so the counter grew a stove.

Today the kitchen cooks breakfast and lunch six days a week, and on Thursday to Saturday nights we dim the lights and serve a short dinner menu. Bread comes from a bakery two streets away; vegetables come from whoever has the best of them that week.

We keep the menu short so we can cook it well and tell you exactly what's in it.

  • Most lunch plates in fifteen minutes or less
  • Allergens marked on every dish
  • Tables for up to eight, the back room for more

Questions

Anything else: [email protected]

Do I need to book?

Not for breakfast or lunch: most tables are walk-in. For dinner we suggest booking, because the room is small.

Can you cook for allergies?

Every dish is marked for gluten, dairy, nuts and meat. Tell us about anything else when you book or order, and the kitchen will check every ingredient with you.

Do you have food for children?

Yes: smaller plates of most lunch dishes, and high chairs. Ask at the counter.

Can we book the back room?

Yes, for groups of nine to twenty. Call us and we'll plan a set menu together.

Is there step-free access?

Yes. The entrance is level with the street and there is an accessible toilet on the ground floor.

Dinner is Thursday to Saturday.

Twenty-four seats and a short menu. Request a table and we'll confirm by email.
