Keep your own books in an hour a week.

Columnwise is a six-week course for people who run a small business and dread the shoebox of receipts at the end of the year.

Length
Six weeks, about an hour a week
Format
Short videos, worksheets, optional live calls
Next cohort
Starts Monday 1 February 2027
Hands writing in an open notebook on a wooden desk, next to a cup of coffee and a croissant.

Six weeks, one routine.

Each week adds one habit to the last. By the sixth, the hour runs on its own.

  1. Week 1 of 6

    Get your bearings

By the end: a list of every account and a catch-up plan.

  2. Week 2 of 6

    Categories that fit

By the end: your own category list, tested on last month.

  3. Week 3 of 6

    Receipts, captured once

By the end: a receipts folder and a naming rule you use every day.

  4. Week 4 of 6

    Reconcile without tears

By the end: a reconciled month and a checklist for the next.

  5. Week 5 of 6

    The weekly hour

By the end: your first full weekly hour, timed.

  6. Week 6 of 6

    Month end and the accountant

By the end: a month-end pack and a hand-over folder.

Bookkeeping isn't hard. Catching up is.

Most owners don't avoid the books because they're bad with numbers. They avoid them because nobody showed them a routine small enough to keep.

  • Receipts pile up until the deadline

Twelve months of paper in one weekend is miserable and error-prone. A weekly hour, done the same way each time, isn't.

  • Courses teach accounting, not your Tuesday

You don't need debits and credits theory. You need to know what to record, where, and when to stop.

  • The accountant's bill keeps growing

When the books arrive tidy and reconciled, your accountant spends less time on them, and you can ask better questions.

By the end of six weeks

You'll have a routine and the files to go with it, not just notes.

A weekly routine
A one-hour checklist you've already done six times, so it's a habit, not a plan.
Clean categories
A short list of income and expense categories that fits your business and your tax return.
Reconciled accounts
Bank, card and cash that match your records, and a way to find the difference when they don't.
A receipts system
Paper and email receipts captured the day they arrive, named so you can find them in a year.
A month-end pack
Three simple reports you can read yourself: what came in, what went out, and what's owed.
A hand-over for your accountant
A year-end folder in the format accountants ask for, with a list of questions to bring.

Your instructor

Nadia Osei

Bookkeeper for small businesses

Nadia has kept the books for cafés, studios, trades and one very busy bike shop. She started Columnwise after realising she was teaching every new client the same weekly routine, one at a time.

She teaches the way she works: short sessions, plain words, and a worksheet you fill in with your own numbers rather than an example company.

  • Runs every live call herself
  • Answers questions in the course forum on weekdays
  • Updates the lessons each year when the forms change

Questions

Anything else: [email protected]

Do I need accounting software?

No. The course works with a spreadsheet, and shows where the same steps live in common accounting apps if you already use one.

Is this tax advice?

No. Columnwise teaches you to keep accurate records. Your accountant or tax adviser decides what goes on your return.

What if I'm already behind?

Module one includes a catch-up plan: how to bring the last few months up to date in small pieces, then switch to the weekly routine.

How long do I keep access?

A year from your start date, including any updates to the lessons and templates.

Can I get a refund?

Yes, within fourteen days of the start, for any reason.

Are the live calls recorded?

Yes. Recordings are posted within a day, with captions.

The next cohort starts on 1 February.

Six weeks, an hour a week, and a routine you'll keep.
