Ostrel Loam · ceramic speaker

Loam

A speaker made of fired clay, for the room you actually live in.

Loam from behind its shoulder, showing the smooth matte ceramic side.

Made like a vase, not a gadget.

A stoneware body, a woven front and one aluminium dial. No lights, no screen, nothing asking for attention.

Loam seen straight on: the sage woven front framed by the ceramic body, the dial on top.

Turn it on by turning it up.

The dial is the whole interface. Turn for volume, press to play or pause.

Most speakers are built to disappear or to show off.

Loam is built to sit on the same shelf for years and look like it was always meant to be there. It is heavy, quiet in its shape, and it does one job: play what you choose, at the volume you choose, in the room you are in.

Bluetooth or a cable. No account, no app, no voice assistant.

Materials

Loam at a distance, the matte ceramic body catching window light.

01 · Ceramic

Stoneware, fired and left matte.

The body is slip-cast clay, so it weighs more than it looks. That weight keeps it still on a shelf and gives the sound a solid box to work in.

Closer in: the sage fabric front and its soft rounded ceramic frame.

02 · Woven front

A wool-blend weave you can touch.

Sage fabric stretched over a steel grille. It covers the driver, takes the edge off the shape, and doesn't show fingerprints.

Macro of the knurled aluminium dial on top of the speaker, the weave below it.

03 · Machined dial

One dial, cut from solid aluminium.

A knurled edge your thumb finds in the dark. Turn for volume, press to play or pause, hold to pair a new phone.

Your day

Loam in cool, clear morning light.

· Morning

The radio, low, while the kettle boils.

Loam at midday, the light starting to warm across the wall.

· Midday

Something to work to, kept in the background.

Loam in warm golden late-afternoon light.

· Late afternoon

Records, a little louder.

About a day of listening at room volume, then a USB-C cable and it's ready again tomorrow.

Questions

Do I need an app?

No. Pair it once from your phone's Bluetooth settings by holding the dial, or plug in a cable. There is nothing to sign up for.

Is ceramic fragile?

The walls are thick and it is not delicate in normal use, but it is still ceramic. A fall onto a tiled floor can chip it. Treat it like a good vase, not like a phone.

Can I take it outside or into the bathroom?

Keep it indoors and dry. The fabric front is not made for steam or rain.

Can I pair two of them?

Not in this version. Loam is designed as one speaker for one room.

What happens when the battery gets old?

The base comes off with four screws and the cell is a standard part. You can replace it yourself or send it back to us.
